What We Do

Michelle’s Place was founded in 2001 to provide support and resources to women battling breast cancer as well as to educate the community about breast cancer prevention and detection.  With the mission of providing emotional and education support and facilitating breast health care services, Michelle’s Place has implemented the following programs to help women make informed decisions and to encourage women to take responsibility for their breast health:

• Patient Navigation provides personal assistance to our participants during diagnostic procedures, diagnosis and treatment process to ensure timely and appropriate care.

• Breast Health Assistance provides free or low-cost diagnostic services to those without access to medical services not covered by state-funded programs.

• Pink Ribbon Assistance provides temporary financial support to women undergoing breast cancer treatment whose income and/or expenses have also been impacted by treatment as well as toolkits for women who are newly diagnosed.

• The Wellness Program encourages women in the community to improve their lifestyle by introducing the benefits of eating healthy, exercising regularly and practicing good breast health.  This program is currently on hold while it is being revamped in 2012.

• Educational Resources are located on-site and include multi-media as well as workshops and guest speakers. Through funding from Verizon Foundations, this year we proudly present our Educational Seminar Series, a series of educational seminars on breast cancer topics, on video. • Support Services range from a caring network of volunteers including survivors offering support and a listening ear, to Self Help Groups including a Spanish-speaking support group called Esperanza para Mujeres (Hope for Women). We offer Healthy Steps classes weekly along with monthly Lymphedema Fittings, all free of charge.  Last but not least, we have comfort items including wigs, scarves, hats, bras, and prosthetics.
